I've been eyeballing the canon 20D for a while and now that I finally made up my mind to buy one HOLY COW
the 30D hits the shelves. Has anybody here used the 20D? How'd you like it? All the reviews I read rave about it's fast start up and 5 fps for 23 consecutive frames. Are they really that fast?
I ordered the 30D about 10 minutes ago.
5 fps or 3 fps for 30 consecutive frames...WOW!
It says the 30D has an improved, more durable shutter design than the 20D. I don't remember the 20D having shutter problems. (olympus e20 sure did)
Cost me $769, no tax and free shipping. (no new fish stuff for a while)
I've heard that people seem to prefer the older EF/s lenses over the new"designed for digital" stuff. Any feedback on this issue would be appreciated.
Thanks

Friends of ours who are professional photographers use Canon 20D's. They are really amazing cameras. Unless you are already familiar with Canon cameras, sit down and read your manual cover to cover; twice if necessary. The options available and the stuff you can do is awesome.
I only have a Canon SLR Digital Rebel 6.3 megapixel and it is smarter than I am I think.
Enjoy your new camera!

P.S. - If it takes a bad picture, it is your fault; not the camera's.

The key reason we went with Canon is the fact that we have used them in the past and the 30D is EOS compatible. My wife is a professional photographer and we have tons of EF lenses from her film cameras as well as other items like hot shoe adapter and speedlites.
Are they as fast as Canon claims?
I can't believe I chose the free 7-12 day snail delivery. I can't wait!

I honestly do not know a lot about lenses other than what they do (telephoto for distance, macro for close ups, etc.). That is something I would like to research further because I want to get a decent macro lens for my camera.
:joy:

Well, bad news. I got the "bait and switch" phone call today from the camera store. I filed a complaint with the NY Atty General. I found 8 similar complaints on ripoff report dot com. I'm bummed.

I also wanted to add that most places online that sell really cheap are called "grey" market, and won't come with a US warranty. Be really careful...order from a reputible place and save yourself money in the long run

They tried to tell me the one I purchased was a European model and I could upgrade for $400 to the USA model. :notsure:
I contacted Canon and was told "Canon builds the 30D for the world market and a European specific model does not exist" so I sent a copy of my correspondence with Canon along with a statement of what transpired to the NY Atty Gen. for review. We bought a grey market Sony a few years back for $300 under wholesale and were very pleased with it. Only difference was warranty (was warranted, but we would have to ship to Japan for repair) and the adapter for the wall charger. Never needed the warranty.
If anyone is considering a major online purchase you should check out http://www.ripoffreport.com/search.asp before you buy. I wish I had checked before I tried to buy. Luckily they hadn't charged my card yet. I called the CC company and applied a freeze to the account.
Lesson learned.

I was JUST looking into the Cannon EOS 30D Digital SLR camera. Everywhere I've looked is around $1400-$1500. Is there a 38mm and Digital model available or am I getting a really overpriced camera?
I was going to purchase tomorrow, anyone else use this camera?
