Ornate Wrasse Disapeared

Hello All,
Last Saturday I purchased an Ornate Wrasse for my 55 Gallon. In the tank I have a clarkii clown, 3 green chromis and a bangaii cardinal. For inverts I have a brown brittle star, Fire shrimp, emerald crab and assorted snails and hermits.
I drip acclimated the wrasse for 1.5 hours. After two days, the wrasse vanished. He seemed perfectly healthy, no sign of disease at all. I read that the Ornate/Christmas Wrasse likes to bury itslelf in the sand at night.
Is it possible that the brittle star ate the wrasse when it was buried in the sand?
I am upset that I lost this fish so fast...it wasn't cheap.
Any ideas what happend?
Thanks
Mike

It is possible that the brittle attacked it at night, as some brittles are known for this! Some wrasses are jumpers too, so if you have an open top, i'd check everywhere around the tank as well. has your ammonia spiked?

definitely the two things I was thinking. Either it got eaten by the star at night or jumped out of the tank.

Honey, all I can say is good luck. It may have just died, and you would be surprised at how quickly hermit crabs and shrimp can dispense of fish remains. I lost an entire yellow tang in one night. Just keep checking your ammonia to make sure the fish isn't decaying somewhere.
The note on jumping is a consideration, too, because my flasher wrasse jumped out once and landed FIVE FEET away from the tank. I saved him, but what a jump!!!

another thought.... we had a wrasse in our tank for a full week before we ever even saw it!! Our fish guy put it in while we were on vaca and he thought it got killed but it surprised us. GoodLuck!!!!! :happyfish
