Is any one one here threatened by the fires? I am about 10 miles away from the fire in Ventura county. The wind is blowing the other way, so not real worried. However my brother in law lives on a farm that is in the path of the fire. Unforunatley the other fire is so horrible there is very little information about this fire.

The Grand Prix fire got about 2 miles from my house here in Alta Loma (North Rancho Cucamonga) The fire can't really get to our house but the ash and smoke is the worst I've ever seen. My black truck looks white because of the ash.
Your fire has split into two fires where our two fires here in San Bedo county have merged into one huge fire.
Good luck over there

Thanks, we should be OK. We are on the other side of Thousand Oaks so it would have to burn through the town and jump the 101 to get to us. It does make you think about the plan for evacuating your house.
I wouild like to meet the person who thought, now CA gets about 300 days of sunshine a year, let' put wood shingles on our houses so they can dry out and become kindling.
2 miles is too close for me. I am glad to hear that you have made it through, at least so far. Who knows what the winds are going to do.

When I saw the fires last night, it was amazing how they have spread. I know the winds aren't helping. During the day, one town was so full of smoke and ash that it looked amost night. VERY erie. Evacuation plans are always a good thing. Keep a list handy of what you would take if they knocked on your door to leave. A friend of my Aunts lives (lived) in the Hattaras area. Isabel took out there house. They always have a "plan". I guess everyone should really. Good luck to all in those areas!

I heard they have closed all of the 23 frwy.. Yikes!! I remember the Malibu fires when I lived in N.P. and lots of people were parked on Lynn Rd watching the fire across the street....

Yes I remeber those fires as well. At the time we lived in a house that boardered Borchard drive. At one point I could see the flames from our house. Not a good site. Then later in the day there was a small fire that erupted not more than 100 yards from out house. Luckily someone called it in and within 2 minutes a tanker flew over and put a water drop on the fire and put it out.
After these fires the entire borachard drive was lined with fire fighters. It was great to see this and the signs that the people put out for the fire fighters.
It has been dark and gray outside of our house all day. Now it is turning orange with the sun setting.
Thank goodness for these hard working men and women.
