OK, I have a nasty little ugly freakin bug showing up in our home. I am hoping someone can identify this so I can spray the proper stuff to rid us of them. Living here in Chippewa Lake Ohio, we see a lot of bugs....being by the lake of course, but this is the first time I've seen these guys. They about the size of large fleas, but don't jump like the fleas I remember on the dogs at my moms house. Anyway, this is about as large as they get, or atleast that I've seen.
Also, I am spraying ortho "home defense", and although the pressure spray nozzle extension is cool........will it work, and where do I spray??? Man, I hope someone knows something. This one I found on a towel....so that might help with size from the fabric....this is quite enlarged......
I have either a bird, dog, or fish in every room......including the bathroom, so that doesn't help.....bug bombs are not out, but a last resort hopefully.

I just looked up fleas and roaches, and neither seem to match. Roaches don't seem to be that small, and lack what I would call a thoraxic area?? God, I feel soooo gross. I probably eat four or five while I'm sleeping....HELP! If it helps, we have a window in the bedroom open....no screen, second story.....never seen them fly though.:( Man this sucks....we have been real lucky with bugs until now.....

It has rained about 85% of every day this summer in Ohio......it seems like almost every day...very few nice sunny days this year. Thanks for the response.

Spray around the floor boards of the house...wall and floor meet...behind and under cabinets, furniture, etc...keep the spray away from your animal exposure...most insecticides (they claim) are harmless to humans and pets once dried, but I do not buy all of it...
Concentate your efforts where they are most abundent...observe what they are on most of the time and try to eliminate it until you resolve the infestation probelm...
Bugs suck at best!

looks like what we called a snap beetle. we just sprayed a bug spray and they were gone. I dont think they stay around very long though a month or so before the move on.
do the snap and pop when you pick them up?

No thanks Mike, I only asked because Sammy said he probably ate a few every night in his sleep.
;)
Actually, we just went through a similar problem. We had brown recluse aka fiddleback spiders. They had to "dust" the attic. I was so freaked I practically shrink wrapped the tank for 4 hours. and sent the dogs off to friends houses.

Thanks everyone......obviously flour bettles is what I got.....
Kip and Shane.....those links were absolutely perfect and extremely helpful. I think I am going to throw out ANY food that may have any in it....ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.
Then spray.
The first thing that pops in my head is the birds food....we have two love birds, and feed them the food you scoop out at the store. I have often heard there can be bugs in there.....is this a possible source?

Usually the bugs that get into bird food are a type of moth, you will see this co
ebby type stuff in the food if they are in it. All you need to do is put the food in the freezer when you get home then keep it in a sealed container.

I had some of those critters too. I couldn't figure out where they were coming from until I opened a bag of marine salt that wasn't sealed right. The bag was full of the little nasties. once i got ride of the salt I haven't seen any more of the bugs.

We have an exterminator spray every month ( I hate bugs)
While he does not spray near the tank he does spray in the same room along the baseboards. Should I be worried?
I was not until I read this post!

Oh and if the exterminator said that the spray is safe for fish don't beleve him, the same thing happend around here and this guy lost somthing like 2,000 dollars worth of fish , but the exterminars company would not pay a cent!!

So if the exterminator shows up with rubber suit, respirator, and a big scary looking canister...would that be considered strong stuff? :)
Good idea to keep you tank covered with some plastic while the dude is spraying...probably for a couple hours afterwards too..
