I got a new table saw and this is my first DIY project. It's a Thomas the Tank Engine table. These things cost about $200 retail. I built it for about $40. Still needs sanded and stained.

Thanks,
The curves were cut with my Firestorm Multitool (last years gift). Don't care for cordless much though, it keep losing charge. I think the next project will be a new aquarium hood!

Yep, all pine. The board is MDX or what ever you call it. We then hot glued two cloth playmats we had to it (wife burned the tip of her finger off). The legs were glued together pine boards that were premade (16"x32"). I had a lot of fun and it went together pretty fast.

Not at all.
Material
(4) 2x4x8', quality grade pine $9
(2) premade glued pine panels 16"x32" $11
#6 wood screws $6
Inner dimension of table is 32 1/4" by 48 1/4". Will fit standard Thomas and Brio boards. I made my own out of MDF.
Length boards cut to 49 3/4"
Width boards are 33 3/4"
These are then wood screwed together.
Rip one 2x4 in half. Then cut to 46 3/4".
These are attached to inside and centered along length boards, creating the lip for the playboard.
Premade panels are cut in half making them approx. 16"x16" then two placed together and arch drawn and cut out. Attach to inside making the width part of the lip.
Scrap piece ripped and place in center for brace.
Last 2x4 cut to 46 3/4" and one placed on each side for additional bracing of legs.
There you have it.

Instead of a 2x4's you could use (1) 2x6 and eliminate the need to rip the lumber. Would give a little better appearance too.

Great looking carpentry!
I wish I had the tools and know how to construct such projects, then I could figure out a way to make a "nice" canopy for my 55gal.

Thanks everyone! I always make time to play with the boys, it's great bonding time and I like playing with it as much as they do. :)
