I'm trying to type with only my left hand. I was out rollerblading today and broke my right arm. I just got back from the ER and have to go to an orthopedic doctor tomorrow for some more x-rays. The fun part was I was alone and had to finish skating back home 3 miles away. No serious breaks, just a couple of compresssion fractures so I have the arm splinted and immobilized.
It's the damnest thing. I have been in auto accidents, wrecked motorcycles and taken some hellacious falls in my day and never had a scratch. I guess a 37 year old body just can't handle too much punishment anymore.
Well, I'm going to take a darviset (sp) and wash it down with a Carona & lime.

Enjoy your corona..do everything the orthopedic dr. says.I learned the hard way.All the vicodin plus a permanent handicap placard just isn't as much fun as it was for the first 9 months.I had a mirror fall on me at a restaurant and it severed my achilles tendon. But, hey.. at least I can sue;)
Take good care.

I never made it to the corona. Probably a good thing. Katara, yeah I have no one to blame but myself. I guess that is why they make pads. I have them and wore them for years, but never fell so I quit wearing them . Don't I feel dumb now.

Nah..don't feel dumb, just consider this time to spend more time w/your family and if you have kids you can be an example on safety equipment. My godson refuses to wear his bike helmet so he now has to walk 2 miles to & from school in 105 degree weather..kids:rolleyes:

Yeah, I know but I couldn't live w/the guilt of being a "cool parent" if I let him ride around w/out a helmet & something were to happen..it's not like I don't know he's doing it..caught him 3x.

On one hand that is defanitely a bummer....
On the other hand....welcome to my world.. the world of Murphy's Law, the one where if it hops it drops, if it flies it dies, if it swims it sinks, and if chances are 1 in 14 billion, count on yourself being the one.

Got the final word today at the orthopedic's office. It is broken at the end of the ulna where it meets the elbow. It did not break all the way through luckily. They don't use a cast, so I just keep it in a sling and I have to bend my arm several times a day to keep it from becoming stiff. Hurts like crazy, but most of the pain should be gone in a few days. It should be good as new in about 6 weeks.

T99,
Good thing that you are between contracts.
Katara,
You do not have to worry about being a cool parent. In CA. it is state law that anyone under, I think 16, has to wear a helmet when they are riding a bike. Tell that to your kid, case closed.

Helmit for a bike?
ahahahahahahahaa!:D :D :D :D Seriously, folks aren't required to wear them on motorcycles here in Ohio, but a kid has to wear a helmit, knee pads, and every other geeky safety crap imaginable, to ride a huffy? I assume it is the three kids out of five billion that got hurt that enforced these laws.......no wonder kids would rather just sit inside on the puter nowadays........it takes an hour to put on their safety gear to enter into the big bad dangerous outside world.. I highly and seriously doubt if a helmit rule were enforced on me at fifteen, that I would ride a bike at all. Just my opinion..... I guess it isn't surprising that I hardly ever see a single kid playing outside anymore.....great childhood for this generation.  I am SOOOOO happy I am not growing up now, but back when imagination and injuries were common.
TangMan...sorry to hear about it, hope it heals quickly.:)

BTW, I don't have kids yet, but my kid will be one of the kids laughing at the kids with helmits....I will refuse to make him wear one...I would rather sit at home and worry just like parents have done for untold years.....instead of bubble wrapping him, only letting him ride to the end of the driveway while I watch as I sit with medications and bandages if he falls or gets stung by a bee.....what happened to childhood? :(

My daughter suffered a very simular accident two years ago when she jumped out of a swing at school. She landed on her elbow instead of her feet. She broke both the bones at the elbow. Taking xrays were horribile. She had to hold her arm straight as possible. She was screaming as the tech tried to hold her arm straight, I was behind her crying myself. They ended up having to set it in the operating room. She had the fall at 10 am, we got from the hospital (operating room) at 10:15pm. I learned alot from my then 7 year old daughter. Other than shedding a few tears she never said much of anything. Never said a negative word about anything. It ended up costing me $1300 after the insurance paid its part, but she gained alot of respect from her dad that night. I very proud to be the father of that tough little girl.

Gee, what an analogy..I guess since helmets are not something you would consider in your neck of the woods you have no idea what the consequences of parental responsibilty may be, both financial and legally( if he gets a ticket).Plus, I don't live in the sticks and w/all the traffic we have..it just isn't safe for him to be w/out a helmet. His best friend still suffers from seizures from a hit and run driver who hit him while he was riding his bike home from school w/out a helmet. We don't live on some country bumpkin road where an occasional redneck may drive down.

Katara, I grew up on west 47th street in Cleveland.....not exactly BFE, but I guess I should appologize. My main issue is with the fact it is law, and I do NOT like laws made to protect your own person....I do believe it should be each persons individual choice whether or not to wear a helmit or require your child to do so. I don't think the government should parent for us.....that's all. If you hang out here enough, you will learn to not take me too seriously.:D :D Of course when I do have a kid, and we are talking about it lately, he will be taught to NEVER laugh at anyone. I suppose he/she WILL wear a helmit until I decide they don't need to......not some law. The reason I was so POed about laws and kids when I typed that, is because just hours earlier at work, I was talking to a mom would was telling me the rules her school had....."no trapper keepers because they are bad for kids backs when in backpacks"......how stupid. "No key chains or zipper decorations"....deemed unsafe for kids by the school for some reason. "no sweat jackets with the strings because they can get caught in the school bus door and drag the kid".........see my point.....I was just disgusted at the rules kids have to live with, and they basically can't do anything anymore but sit and stare at a PC screen. Obviously you were offended somewhat, and hopefully you will except my appology and explanation as to my thinking.....sometimes I get a little dramatic when typing. :D Oh yeah, BTW, I dreamed of playing football growing up, but I was never allowed to because my moms friends kid got hurt.....kids get hurt, so do adults....why place rules on thousands and thousands for a few mishaps?
