I thought my boyfriend forgot to get me a Christmas present...until today when he showed up with this! A baby ball python! (So I forgive him!)
I named him Smeagel, because I'm a geek.

Smeagel? Like the LOTR character?
Yeah, I admit it. It's not quite as nerdy as calling him "My Precious"--right?!:)

Lol right, of coarse I don't think anybody is quite as nerdy, crazy, or just plain weird as Gollum is. I'm a big LOTR freak. :jumping:

He doesn't look like me. Maybe if he grew some hair!

Perhaps that snake is the big brother of the thing that Gollum ate in the Two Towers.

OK, I named my green moray Gollum. I've paid to see Return of the King three times now. Do I need to get a life?:notsure:

LOL, I named my yellow watchman smeagol a couple months ago. I just couldn't resist cause he had such a personality but a constant frown...anyway fits him well. Awesome snake and great name.

Thanks! He just ate his first mouse (at least the first I've fed him). He wouldn't touch it when it was alive...so we had to bonk it over the head first (I know that sounds bad.)
You are posting from Iraq? How often do you get to logon? Best to you and your buddies over there!

Shoreliner: see now that's a perfect name for a watchman. I love those fish...do you have more than one? They have a pair at my LFS...each sits on opposite sides of the rock and "keeps guard" over it. It's so cool. (P.S. LOVE your avatar!)

Nice looking ball !! But I don't think he is a baby. Keep him on pre killed or frozen rodents. A mouse can do alot of damage to a snake. It don't sound right I know, but I have seen some real serious scares on a number of snakes that had gotten bitten but a mouse when young. I have not fed any of my snakes live prey in a long time, (hatchlings don't count of course, as live pinky mice the only thing I can get them to take before they are sold and they can't harm the snake). I do not know if you have ever had snakes before, but I would also feed him/her in a feeding box(dakr plastic rubber maid or sweater box). So the animals does not develop a feeding reaction and sees your hand as a possible meal.
Enjoy the animal, and beware .... For some people reptiles can be as addicting as salt water. I am one :)

Snakes n Fishes...thanks for the advice! It is my first snake. I have been reading everything I can on them. I would much rather feed dead food to him (I was told it was a male), than live anyway. I was encouraged he ate the mouse after it was knocked out. It sure is a cool pet, but it doesn't much care for my dog. It hisses at her evertime it sees her. But it seems to generally be an agreeable snake. It seems to like being held and played with.
I have a question, too for you...my snake is "wheezing". It sounds like he is sort of lightly whistling through his nose. It's definately not hissing, since I heard him do that when my dog got too close to him...Why might he be wheezing?
