OT tank

Will yall give me the correct way to set up a OT, right now i have an extra 20g, light, emp 400, and heater. Do i need sand, rock, etc??? trying to do it cheap and easy. Also after i QT the fish, do i keep the water in the 20g? Do i have to let the QT cycle?? I was planning on buying buffered RO saltwater from my lfs.....Sorry about this, i just wanna do it correct!!! so gimme the step by step!!!

if you can get something out of your display tank that would be loaded with good bacteria like a filter media that would keep your cycle from happening. Use water out of your DT for the water. do water changes at least once during the 2 weeks the fish is in there. 10%
you don't need any sand but a live rock can't hurt unless you are doing treatment, then you wouldnt want to contaminate the LR.
Pretty much bare bones.

Yes you need to cycle a QT tank, although you can "bump" this process along by throwing a foam sponge into your sump to gather bacteria and simply place it in the QT tank when ready, just make sure its a big enough piece for the QT tank.
I basically float a piece in my sump that way its always ready to go.
Never reuse the sponge!!! Well technically you can dry it out then bleach it and then dry it and reuse it but they are so cheap its easier to just throw a new one in there.

Some things need no updating
why add water from you DT ? why add live rock at all
+ "bump" this process along by throwing a foam sponge into your sump to gather bacteria
IMO this is a waist of time

awesome guys thanks!!! ya ill most like just throw the sponge and pvc pipe in, no LR or sand!! ive read that i should paint the bottom of the tank (outside) that reduces fish stress?? This QT will be going in my room, can i throw something cheep and hardy in there to keep me company like a damsel or maybe one clown?

The sponge is only going to help if it already have bio filtration capability's. you only need to paint the bottom if you can look through your tank and see the floor. You can keep a fish in it but you will be subjecting it to the possibility of illness every time you QT a new fish
