A quick question, the Torch coral, two of the heads are extremely white compared to the others. Normal?? or is the lighting too much being that close to the top?
Appreciate the help on this one!!

Was it that color when you got it? Extrememly white is not good, should have some brown or greenish coloring in the tentacles themselves. If this is a new occurance in your tank it may be some lighting acclimation concern, if it was this way when you bought it...well you need to bring it back to health.

thx spanko, knew I could count on you. It was white from the LFS, how white..
. I noticed that there was three heads that were dead, looked for tissue recession or any signs of BJD on the others. Noticed the three heads were covered in a green algae, but that was due to the placement in their tank (low flow). At $15 I couldn't pass on it.
So, what would be the best way to bring this back? Should I bring it lower in the tank or just keep water parameters pristine (which we do anyway)? Increase or decrease flow??
thx again

Specs for the 14 Biocube
Stock lighting at 48 watts
10 hour lighting schedule
PH 8.2
trites 0
Ammon 0
trates 0-5
calcium 480
salinity 1.024-1.025
temp 79-80
dkH- 8
feeding home made brew, marine snow and selcon
oh, and I am using the BC29's pump in the 14 for more flow. Can't think of gph rate right now, but I did this the other night because the stock and the koralia nano was too much for the inhabitants. I believe the turnover rate was 19, I'll have to check when I get home.

Just do what you're doing me thinks. Seems you have a green thumb in this hobby and wouldn't try to second guess your success. Tentacles should be lightly flowing in the tank and for the lighting you probably have it in a good place. I would try once in a while turning off all the flow and dropping a pcs of mysis or two on each head and watch the tentacles deflate as they try to get it to the mouth. Not too often, once a week maybe.
Hope all goes well with it.

thank you, I did plan on feeding but wanted to wait a little bit after acclimating. You are a big help and thanks for the boost of confidence with the green thumb comment. Always welcome a compliment from a respected peer.

low and behold...when I came home today, fed the Torch some mysis (did not like Krill) and there is much improved coloring in the one head and slight in the other.

yes, best of luck with the torch.. i actually had a buddy who picked up a torch and was having some kind of problem with it as well.. the tentacles were getting VERY skinny and short and he was tripping out..
the guy i get my frags from (some local reefer) says that they are tough corals .. (he has pleeeeeeeeeentyyyy of corals.. hes not a n00b) lol..
he also said once they get alage coverage.. they are pretty much done.. please let us know how he does and glad to hear you are already having success!

Thx Whisk, all the heads grabbed some mysis and color is coming back in the two troubled heads, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Thx Ronnie, when I brought it home, we used a scapel to scrap off the algae so it would not become a nuisance. yes I know thats a little OCD, but I don't like losing my critters.
