Our new addition

I think Monsi mentioned we adopted a new dog. Well, here she is. This is Brittany. She is a 9 year old lab mix. She has a torn cruceate ligament in her rear right leg we are doing PT on. She has shown improvement in just the week we've had her. She has a bad ear that is deformed from years of chronic and neglected ear infections. Hematomas has obviulsy formed and then caused scar tissue, so it sits very close to her head. She is completely housebroken and as long as we keep the garbage out of reach, is perfect in the house. She has been very sweet with me since I had my surgery, actually waiting for me outside of doors and sleeping with me last night in bed. I think she's made a great addition to our home. She opens up to us a little more each day. I think she just needs time to adjust to this being her new home. I don't know what her life was like before us. She was an owner surrender when they were evicted and she came to the shelter with a cocker and 3 cats. I was told the cocker was so matted you couldn't find skin, but she was adopted before we got Brittany. She had been there 2 months and I was told not one person even looked at her. Statistically black dogs, large dogs, and older dogs are hard to adopt out. She is all three. I wanted a dog that othewise might never find a home. Losing Lady was devastating and I needed something good to come out of our loss. Giving a home to Brittany seemed to be the best thing to do and I am glad we did it.

I have said it before and I will continue to say it, my wife is awesomesauce.
out of all the dogs and cats we have, Brittney is the only one that comes to my defense when people pick on me. Like when I am tickling our kids, the dogs all bark at me and try to get me to stop. When the kids try to tickle me, all but Brittney bark and act playfully agressive towards me. Only Brittney comes to my defense. Yay for that.
I agree that she is a good dog and we are more than happy to provide her a home for the remainder of her life. I hope the leg heals up well, but if it doesnt, we have found that surgery doesnt always work and there are braces we can get.

She's adorable. I, too , have a rescue. It's so sad that more people don't look into rescues. Best of luck with her!

All of our animals are rescues. Monsi's cocker was the only one that we had that came from a breeder and he had her when we met. Lady I found as a stray, Tigger and Spook (Tigger passed in June) were left in a box at my place of work with the rest of the litter of kittens they were out of. Molly (our toy poodle who passed away 3 years ago) was a stray someone found and brought to the vet clinic I worked at. No one wanted her because they estimated her to be 10-12 years old, had an absessed tooth and some back issues. We had her for 8 years. MuShu our Pug was from a shelter in CT and we got her at 5 months of age. Someone bought her in a petsore and put her in the shelter 2 days later! They even gave me all the paperwork from the petstore so I had the previous owners info. There were a few things I would have liked to have said to them! Sully came from a poodle rescue in MA. He also came from a petstore where the rescue had purchased him due to the horrid conditions he was being kept in. My cat Percy we adopted in September and he came from a rescue. He's the most amazing cat. And then we have Suri our foster cat. She was a stray that was pregnant that I took in. Didn't want her having kittens in the cold and yes, I had thoughts of eventually keeping a kitten. But she miscarried and now is spayed and goes to adoption clinics every Saturday. So we're a rescue family here!

I dont think any of our fish are "rescues" but I like to think that they are being fed better than in the wild and they are safer in the tank than in the wild.

She looks like a sweet dog. I love hearing adoption stories like this. I know if I had the space, I would definitely adopt at least one more dog.

Congratulations. I see she's all settled in on the sofa with a comfy blanket. What a touching story.

Well, actually when Monsi and I met he had a 1 dog rule, but he had a dog (his cocker Tawney)and I had a dog. I asked him when he was getting rid of his since there was nothing on heaven or earth that could make me part with Lady. So THEN it became the 2 dog rule. Then I came home with the Toy Poodle Molly. She was just supposed to be a foster and I had successfulyl placed quite a few dogs before her but no one wanted an "old" dog which was THEIR loss because she was fabulous. Never got into trouble, loved being in a lap, very affectionate, good with everyone and she and Lady became friends immediately. Then hubby wanted a Pug. I asked him about the 2 dog rule when we had 3. His response was "well when you already have 3 dogs, what is one more?" LOL so the 4th dog was all HIM! We adopted MuShu, our Pug from a shelter in CT and added her to the family. Then 2 years later Molly had a stroke and we had to put her to sleep. She was with us a total of 8 years! As a groomer I felt I had to have a poodle! LOL So I adopted Sully, who was supposed to be full poodle, but there is just no way he is. I wonder if Monsi would have still dated me if he'd known how many dogs we would end up with. You should have seen his face when I brought home a box of 5 kittens and planned to keep one, since he's allergic. We were dating about 4 months then. It was his idea to keep Spook, our black cat because he fell in love with him. So he is allergic, but not enough to keep him from having his own cat LOL. Here are some pics of the pets we haven't shown before.

Spook likes to play the Wii, LOL

whats strange is that he has developed an immunity of sorts to our cats. When we go to someone else's house and they have cats, he gets all sneezy and watery eyes right away. That only happens in our house when one of the cats loves on his face.

Lets see here on the 4 legged animals here. Have 4 Cats Ceaser and Gizmo the Twins as I call them. They were my mothers cats howeve when she got sick and went into the Hospital/ Nursing home I was elected by my Brothers to take them in that adn I am the onlyone in 500 miles that could. Then we have Callie and Whiskey the 2 Calico cats. Callie is the only thing left from my first marriage besides a few articles of clothes I have. SHe is the sweest cat and a rescue also. Then we have Smoke a dog that showed up as a Stray a puppy Shepard and Chow mixed. Took him to the vet estimated age 12 weeks old. Great with the kids however the twin cats hate him. Why he loves to play I am going to get you with the cats. Ceaser is 20 Lbs of Muscle Gizmo is in the area of 24-25 Lbs nad they HATE DOGS. Going to be fun to see who wins this war.
