Our new BTA-wilts & comes back again?

:help: We just got our first Rose bubble tip on Saturday. So far it has wilted on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, but it comes back after about 2- 3 hours of looking aweful each time. When it comes back it looks great. It never loses it's color, but we notice a brown substance coming from it's mouth when it is in it's wilted state. The entire time that it is wilted, our maroon clown is snuggling it as normal. We have a 72 gallon tank. Our lighting is 4 65w pc's. 2 bulbs or actinic for 14 hrs/2 bulbs are daylight for 12 hrs. PH is 8.0. Amn. & Nitrite are both zero. Nitrate is 10. Calcium is 415 & Phosphate is .035. Is it o.k? Is it just pooping? Is it normal to do this every day?

Welcome to the board

I'd watch this very carefully in the next few days, see if it looses any color. It could be loosing its zooxanthellae, it can not live without it.
As to the lighting you are where I would say, at the low end of the scale.
Your calcium looks ok but what about the alkalinity? I'd also try to keep that calcium above 400.
Expanding and contracting is normal, especally for a new anemone, but the excreating does bother me, I can only hope its not the zooxanthellae. If you have been feeding it then it could simply be waste its expelling.
I would cut that lighting to no more than 12 hours per day, but thats a personal preference.

Thank you so much for your input. We have fed it twice so far, but never actually see it eat. I just woke up (7:00 a.m.) to find it doing it again. I'll run some more tests today. I'll try to take before & after pictures of it, if I can get the clown off of it long enough to get a few good pics.

Steve&Kim,
I've got a rose bubble tip, and it did that some thing for a while. It was totally normal for a month and a half, and then started doing that every day. It would actually look like it had melted almost, and it got this really funky neon green color. Sometimes it even had some brown stuff coming out of it. But, within a couple hours, it would be fine again. After a few weeks of this, it stopped doing it, and it looks absolutely stunning these days. Strange, isn't it? I'm glad I'm not the only one who got a psycho anemone! :) Just keep working on good water quality and don't treat the anemone any differently and hopefully it'll get over it like mine did. All I can say is that you might want some more light.
Good luck!

Hi Thomas,
We have a finger leather and a cabbage leather plus 2 feather dusters. These all are doing well. We still want to add more, but not sure what ones yet.
Thanks,
Kim

So far then just softies, no hard corals, if you plan to go with SPS later on then you may need to look into some halides, but here are at least three options.
Possible options depending on size and what you may like.
This first one is 380 watts
36" 4 Lamp VHO Retrofit Kit (w/ ARO Model 4L ballast)
Bulb1: URI Super Actinic VHO #10-30-03-V (+$19.00)
Bulb2: URI Actinic White 50/50 VHO #12-30-ATW-V (+$16.50)
Bulb3: URI Super Actinic VHO #10-30-03-V (+$19.00)
Bulb4: URI Actinic White 50/50 VHO #12-30-ATW-V (+$16.50)
Total without shipping. 236.00
The next two are both 440 watts.
The 46.5" VHO retrofit kit. (w/ARO Model 4L ballast)
Bulb1: URI Super Actinic VHO(+$20.00)
Bulb2: URI Actinic White 50/50 VHO(+$23.50)
Bulb3: URI Super Actinic VHO(+$20.00)
Bulb4: URI Actinic White 50/50 VHO(+$23.50)
Total without shipping 256.00
48" 4 Lamp VHO Retrofit Kit (w/ ARO Model 4L ballast)
Bulb1: URI Super Actinic VHO (+$20.95)
Bulb2: URI Actinic White 50/50 VHO(+$23.95)
Bulb3: URI Super Actinic VHO (+$20.95)
Bulb4: URI Actinic White 50/50 VHO(+$23.95)
Total without shipping 258.80
None of these are for fancy dual timers or moonlights, The 4 bulbs are either on or off all at one time.
But these are options.
