our snails are frigging lazy

our snails just sit around on our powerhead and around the top of the tank not doing much at all while algae is growing all over the place. anybody else have snails not earning their keep?

in my 65g I have 18 Astrea and 7 Nass snails (I know, very light on snails) and most of them seem productive but not productive enough to keep everything clean. When I first got the Astrea they did hang out at the top of the tank for a day or so but now they mostly hang out on the live rock and not on the glass.. go figure.

My snails were the same way...loved the glass but wouldn't touch the rocks. I now have a lawnmower blenny.

Rocks are always clean and Rocky is always happy.

Many snails are more active at night.
But what are your tank water parameters? Do you ever use copper?

no nothing copper goes near the tank. our only trouble with our water are our nitrates, up around 10ppm.
id say 4-5 of them are quite active cruising all over the place and then the rest just hang out in the same spot for days.
