What kind of sand is that? Also, have you thought about a solid background?
Looks good so far
Its a cribe sea sand said black more like salt & pepper
Thanks, I have a solid background that needs to be cleaned and cut to size. Will put it on tonight.
I still need more rock used it all during set up,now its under the sand, thinking about getting another 45-50 pounds or less of XL live rock.
For the canopy ,I'll take some mesurements build a skelation then skin it with 1/4 plywood, toped with egg crate and supports for M.H.'s / T-5's / moon lights. Maybe some polished alumin.

I measured my canopy...7 inches tall...I wish mine were taller. If you are doing your own...if I could do my own:
I would make it like the cabinets over my stove (12 inches??) ...about that tall, with doors so I could work on my tank without removing the whole canopy. That would hold the lights high enough to stop a great deal of the heat., but still concentrated enough for the tank. MH, Moonlighs, and actinic would fit all on the top portion with the doors just above the tank.
I saw someone who had done it, and I thought it was a great idea.

I boil them till white, it works.
As for the canopy I will go for 35 inches of hight from the top of the tank.

...Take some pictures...maybe I can get a friend to make me a nice tall one...Sounds fantastic. I have to remove my whole canopy to do anything for the tank, talk about a hassle.

My last one 30 inches tall allowed me to get inside the tank if I had to, I liked that so I am going for a lighter model. Big door.
I am looking at moon lights, wanted to know what everyone thouth about these??.
