Overfeeding?

When I research about fish that I would like to introduce to my tank the books that I look at state " Feed at least two times a day." (For a my pink spotted watchman) When I went to my local fish store I was informed by the sales women that I was overfeeding my fish (When I am doing one feeding in the evening). I was told by another fish shop to feed every other day. Why are these shops so different from what the books are saying? What do you guys think?

Everyone does this different....I feed my tanks once a day.....now that I have seahorses again....they will eat 2x a day
some people feed every other day.....some feed 2-x small meals a day.....you need to make sure the fish are healthy, and eating what you feed w/o waste
