can anyone tell me how to get rid of the air going into my sump from the overflow?

Maybe add container of bioballs.

If you post this in the equipment forum, you may get more responses. It's a little tough to really answer your question by your description of the problem. Are you talking about air getting trapped in the tube on your overflow? You can usually get around that by downsizing the diameter of the tube.
