You can get air check valves at any of the big pet stores or online where aquarium products are sold. Let us know how it turns out. I built one once and tested it out...it worked fine but decided to drill the tank instead...more reliable IMO.

Overflows work fine with none installed for me anyway.

If it's to maintain siphon I suggest you not use one. It will only fail.
I run a line from the top of the hob part to a powerhead to suck out the air bubles and prevent siphon break.
