I have been trying to figure out which to get for myself, and from what I have heard...the CPR overflows are the best. I plan on getting one myself.
Just thought I would share that.

CPR's need a "pump" to keep the air from building up and breaking siphon(flood)...
The "U"tube type (AMiricle is one) seem to be a bit more reliable...
Do a search on this forum for CPR and "U"tube before you buy...

FWIW, I talked to the guy who makes the overflows at LifeReef because I wanted to buy one....he was out but suggested the Amiracle (which I went ahead and bought), but he said to stay away from the CPR's.....I haven't ever used an overflow period but I'm just passing along what he said.

I love my CPR overflow it is so quiet and all you have to do so that air dont get stuck in it is run a air line tube down to your sump from the box, water flows down the tube and takes the air out of the box, works great:yes: and soooo quiet:yes:

The CPR overflow requires more maintenance than other overflows and also requires a powerhead or airpump to operate. The continuous siphon created by the powerhead or airpump means that there is one more element that could cause the CPR to fail and cause a flood than the U-tube style overflows have. The CPR is also a lot more difficult to clean than other overflows. If you can live with all of this and keep up with maintenance, the CPR can be a decent overflow.
I've used both, and am currently using a CPR. I've got an Amiracle overflow sitting in my closet that I plan on using for a future setup, but it just wasn't giving me enough flow through my sump on my current tank.

Well i have had mine for somtime now and never had to us a powerhead or pump and it works good, the air that gets in the box gets sucked into the sump by just a air line hose that you can use instead of a pump or powerhead.

Hey davy...does the cpr come with instructions on how to set up the air line? I dont quite understand what you mean with the airline, and will be recieving mine shortly.

yes it does, on top of the box is a airline fitting, all you need to do is put a line on this and run it down to the sump and the water flow will suck air out that has gotten in the box and it will then run down into the sump. the airline needs to be under the water in your sump incase your pump stops and the flow of water stops, so air is not sucked back into the box.
