overflow II

does anyone know anything about this type of overflow??? could i do something like this with 1.5" bulkhead??? the overflow i was going to build is going to take up a large portion and this would solve this problem... i think i could make the pipe running across the back bigger to handle more water... i am using a mag 18 (135g tank, 55gal sump)

well since no one replied i went ahead and drilled and installed everything... have to make a couple mods but looks ok to me... the black line is where i was going to cut out but i might cut out more... the last one is a shot of the back... leaving the paper on front panel to keep from scratching it right now... the little pipe in the back is kinda an overflow for the overflow
... what do you think???

Looks like it would work to me. I was going to suggest overflow boxes from glassholes or even building one out of the acrylic you already have. I just installed two 700gph glass holes boxes in a tank I am building and they are 6.25"x6"x2" so they don't take up much space at all. The next tank I build for myself will have these overflows they are awesome.

Very innovative. I really like this idea. I am buliding a custom tank this summer, or fall. I hope to hear the feedback on this OF setup. I wonder how quiet it will be. Seems to me there might not be enough air getting in the drain pipes. Pretty easy fix if it happens, but I am very curious how it goes, Ill be watching this thread closely.

I like the design a lot. But its the size of the drain not the box that matters. As long as you have a decent size drain and the right amount of drains you dont need a huge overflow box. I have a 125 with 2 - 1 1/2 drains going to one overflow box and the box does not take up much room at all. Glass holes is a good place to get an idea on boxes and they explain the difference better. But the design is sweet!!!
