Overflow noise problem. Unique?

OK, I have my tank running on fresh water for the moment to make sure everything is going to work right.
I have found an interesting problem with the overflow box (Built in) I have done a search to find a solution, but I am Finnish things close but not right for my set up.
The overflow has a PVC pipe drain, that has slits cut into it running up all the way from the bottom. This makes sure the water flows down and the overflow box does not fill up. However it also causes a waterfall sound coming form the box.
Is there anyone who has had this problem that could help.
Thanks in advance.

I have a pvc gate valve not a ball valve on my built in overflow box. I found it online for about $20 to $25. Expensive but well worth it. I am running filterless so I can tweek the water levels so the water is only falling an inch. Its probobly a little overkill....but its in my bedroom and I need my ZZZs. You could try throwing in some bioballs to float on the surface to stop the crashing noise of the water.

I want to tank you for your help. I built a modified dorso for my overflow. It took me a bit to figure out I was supposed to put a small hole in it to keep it from slurping, but that was only a minor frustration. Thanks again.

HEY AQUAMAN...
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY 125....THE PIPE IN THE
OVERFLOW IS ABOUT 6"LONG AND HAS HOLES IN IT ALL
THE WAY AROUND FROM TOP TO BOTTOM....
I LIKE THIS SYSTEM AS IT HAS NO WAY OF EVER FILLING
UP AND OVERFLOWING AS IT CANNOT GET CLOGGED UP...
I ALSO REMOVED THE FOAM PRE-FILTERS ON THEM AS I
FELT THEY WERE NOT NEEDED AND WERE ONLY NITRATE
MAGNETS ANYWAY....THE FILTER PAD IN MY WET/DRY TAKES
CARE OF ANY PARTICLES THAT GO THRU THE OVERFLOW...
WHAT I DID TO QUIET THE VERY NOISEY OVERFLOWS WAS
I BOUGHT 5 GALS. OF BIO-BALLS AND FILLED UP BOTH
OVERFLOWS WITH 2.5 GALS EACH SIDE AND THAT SOLVED THE
PROBLEM....
IF YOU NEED ANYMORE HELP....JUST LET ME KNOW....
REGARDS...
