I know this sounds dumb. I set up my 55 gallon tank with a mud filter. I have a mag 7 pump which came with the mud filter connected to a flexible hose which then forms like a l shape into the tank. My quetsion is. It is very loud, would it be the overflow or the pummp and what can I do about it. Any suggestions I would so appreciate.

Noise from overflow would sound like loud gurgling water, some say like a running toilet. Make sure no air is trapped in overflow. If it is noise from the pump you will get used to it in time. If pump is undre cabinet/stand you could sound proof the inside of the stand to lessen noise.

What kind do you have? My cpr came with a lid that seems to quiet the noise some. I have heard of people putting a few bioballs in the overflow to quiet the"waterfall" noise, don't know if this will restrict flow though?

Please tell us more about your overflows. Are they after-the-fact, hang-on type, or built-in?
If they are built-in, part of the reason for the noise is the long drop the water makes. On my 150, the water was falling about 20", and that made LOTS of noise. I followed directions on this site to build a simple PVC pipe system that cut the noise by about 80%.
I'm going to try to find that thread...

Hey thanks for all the info. I am not sure what kind of overflow it is. It came with a medium size mud filter I bought. I played with the filter box thing in the tank and it seemed to quite it down a little, but it is definetly the overflow being so loud.

Ok I am not very bright about plumbing so bare with me. The standpipes in the website they go up through my overflow box into my aquarium.??? Right now I have my overflow box connected to a fleixble piece of tubing going to my sump. So I could eliminate the need for the tubing and the u shaped tube in my overflow box??
