Overflow plumbing help

Here are the specs
Used 200G acrylic tank - Center overflow with two holes drilled.
For the return I am coming up through one of the holes with 1 1/2 inch pipe.
I have a 2" bulkhead I am using for the overflow.
Would there be any issues with leaving all of the overflow piping at 2" when the return is coming in at 1 1/2? I plan on making a durso standpipe.

The difference in the diameter of the return versus the drain pipes should not. in itself, be a problem. All depends on how many gphs you will be pumping in versus how much water your overflow is capable of draining. I have a similar difference in pipe diameters and have no problem. I chose to have a 'T' off my return pump that allows me to divert some of my return flow back into my sump/refugium. This allows me to control the gphs into the DT to a point where my overflow is not overwhelmed.

I did the same thing with mind. Putting that Tee in lets you limit the flow or divert as much as you wish.

Thank you both very much for the replies.
So, I will leave my overflow at 2" piping.
I do like the idea of putting that T" in there right after the return pump. So I am assuming you put in another one of those valve pieces with the red handle to adjust how much flow could go back to the sump/refugium? Can you tell why I am not a plumber? LOL
