Overflow to Sump Questions PICS

I found this overflow to sump design online and I wanted to find out if it was ok to do it this way. My tank isn't drilled and is currently running, but if this overflow method works, I can just try drilling the tank on the side instead of the bottom.
Do you guys think this works well? Or what problems may I encounter with this overflow design?

That should work just fine - my 40 gal is drilled in the back pane and I havn't had any trouble. If you try to drill through the bottom you could run into trouble if it is tempered.

it will work fine. i would not call it ideal but it will work.
I would do a split return to allow for more flow options.
I would also have my overflows going into filter socks.
you will have to work with the bends on the pipeing to give you the best flow in order to reduce noise. the above design looks to me like it would be rather loud.
that may not matter for your application but i love silent tanks. our 440 was flowing more then 5000 gallons and the only sound was the slight hum of the pumps
