Overflow what effects?

I just hooked up my overflow because i didn't like the surface film and particles floating on the surface. What kind of differences did you see when you added an overflow?

my surface water is nice aand clear since i added my sump/refugium with the overflow. i still point one of my powerheads at the surface though because i undersized my overflow.

From what I have read, generally speaking the top 2-3 inches of your tank water contain roughly 70% of pollutants/waste in this top layer. So yes, having a overflow should make your water quality better for a few reasons. As stated your surface film in your DT will be clean and your overall H20 quality should be better if your overflow drains into your sump/fuge, and a skimmer is fed this water first.

The way i have it set up is the water goes down from the overflow to the sump where it is filtered through carbon or phosguard, depending on how my tank looks and the test results, and 3 different filter pads, then LR under this. My skimmer is in the same chamber as this, the skimmer pumps the water to the next chamber where my fuge is with sand and LR (no macro yet). The water then flows over a plexiglass wall ontop of a another filter pad to the last chamber where my pump is.
Sound about right?
