WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY over stocked, get like a 500 gallon and you should be good

the naso tang should be your first to leave. it will outgrow your tank if it hasn't already. then you should drop a couple more.

12 fish (2 or which are tangs) and an eel are not okay, regardless of size.

First, you DO include the eel... they are sloppy eaters and produce a large amount of waste.. why would you not factor that?
Next, you should plan your aquarium based on max growth size... not "are they small right now.."
finally, the "Go fo it" mentality in this hobby is a sure fire way to crash your tank.
Depends on their size..... If they are all small then you may be OK.... Don't include the eel when you add up all of your fish. I say go for it and don't forget about the water changes every week.

Very well said, and I agree, the tank is WAY overstocked.

I am not sure you would be okay but you would definitely be a lot better. What do your nitrates stay at?

For the past 10 months I have been watching my levels very closely.... surprisingly all my levels were 0. At first I thought it was a problem with my test kit but I had taken a water sample to the lfs several time throughout the year and again were all 0. I do practice good husbandry with frequent water changes. Regarding my hang-on protein skimmer it’s a cheap jbj.... I have heard people call it garbage but maybe I got lucky...that thinks keeps my tank sparkling clean. Within a day of cleaning it...it’s full of that stinky green stuff.
Question also...I bought a piece of live rock long time ago and didn’t really realize until I got home that it was covered with mussels the type we eat I guess.... and since being in my tank the mussels have grown in size. I was wondering if they provide beneficiary filtration since they are filter feeders. I have a feeling that my levels have been great b/c of the mussels too.

Some species are known to eat nitrate...so maybe that's your saving grace...
Oh and BTW we weren't saying over stocked soley on the amount of fish...more the TYPE of fish shouldn't be in there...
