what exactly is the purpose of running ozone. is it to enrich dissolved oxigen levels? also what is the purpose of an orp controller? I assume it is sort of like an aquacontroller for an ozone unit telling it to shut down and such?

thats funny, I was just reading that post. I am going to definately look into an ozone gen. what are the pottential harm to humans though?
:notsure:

No not really. Ozone is found naturally in many places, usually ones that humans seek out because they enjoy the way they feel when they're in this kind of environment. Higher than average concentrations are found at the seashore, at waterfalls and in mountain forests. That sweet, bleachy smell you detect in the air after a thunderstorm is actually ozone. Remember the smell of sheets fresh off the line? That's ozone. Wherever sunlight, water and wind get together, you will find plenty of ozone, and, where feasible, plenty of people who are eager to soak it up! Yes, there is a physiological reason why people feel better at the beach, around waterfalls and in the mountains. Ozone is a large factor, as are beneficial negative ions.

there is only harm done to the tank if there is too much ozone released. Is this the need for the orp controller or can you manually dial it in. I hate to be ignorant on the subject, just want to make sure it is the right decision for the direction the tank is going.
thanks

Having the controller and probe is great for dialing it in and watching the ORP on the digital readout. Ozone - can be passed through aquarium water to oxidize all forms of organic pollutants and kill many of the same organisms that ultraviolet radiation does. Commonly used in skimmers, one should make certain the materials used are "ozone safe" and that the water is passed through activated carbon before returning it to the aquarium because any residual ozone in the water is extremely toxic to the fish.
Ozone is usually passed into the protein skimmer and carbon is put at the output of the skimmer and turns the O3 back into O2.

EXCELLENT
thank you for the most helpful explination. I have a mtc hang on skimmer and i will have to plum in a carbon filter before the water enters the tank. thanks for the info again
