I painted the bottom of a new 20 gal fowlr tank as suggested but now I am wondering about the back. Which is prefered in general, paint or commercial reef background? I don't want to leave it clear. Thanks

Paint! I'm painting our new tanks black.. no more background *sheets*. Nasty to keep clean if you have any water fall between the sheet and glass. UGH

I use a cloth backround, I found 2 yards of black for $1 a yard it was really cheap and I could just toss it in the wash if It go dirty.

Thats not a bad idea at all stdreb27. I actually have vinyl sheeting on mine (like a skin for a stand or something about 1/4 thick) and it is siliconed around the edges so that no water can get under it. It worked well, although I was not the one that set it up that way so I cannot take the credit LOL.
