ok, i want to paint the back of an acrylic tank i am building and the pipes that are going inside the tank (see my overflow II thread in DIY if you want to see the pipes) and was wanting to know what paint to use... i have found that some people use kylon fusion spray paint for the back of the tank... would this also work for the pipes (pvc) inside the tank since they are under water???

I've heard of people using krylon paint for the inside of a tank, but honestly I would never do it.
If I were you I would get black pvc or abs pipe.

already have everything cut in the white pipe.... and i couldnt find any of the black... i was hoping to use the black no one around here carries it... i will look other places before putting it all together.... thanks

I wouldn't paint the pipes. Why take even a little chance...Because they are plastic coraline algae will start on it right away and it won't look bad at all.

I'd be really careful on the inside painting count. IDK much about plastic outside building Radio Control models (which use the same plastic that aquariums are made of) except that many paints, esp. aerosols, contain propellants/solvents which will disolve said plastic or, at the very least, facilitate the release of harmful toxins from them.
Personally, I'd stick w/ acrylics, which are largely non-toxic. Downside is they're also water soluable, so they can't be used inside the tank.

It amazes me how useful your experiences have been in this hobby today

I've seen people use krylon for painting acrylic pieces for aquarium use. Never heard if it had negative effects or not though...
I don't think it would look too bad if you could get some coraline to grow there.

thanks for the help... was going to paint the pipes before hearing this... i will continue to look for black pipe but if not will stick with the white... i think it will take a long time to color the pipes because there is giong to be a lot of it... i think the white will be too "ugly" but i would rather that than risk messing everything up...

I have heard of using the PVC primer (Purple) to coat the pipes and give a false coralline algae appearance. It may have been here or another site. Hope it might help

I have a white piece of plastic in my tank, it has been there 3 weeks and already has coraline started. I have a new output tube (black) it was placed in there a month ago and it is nearly covered. So it won't be ugly for long.

sounds good to me... i will just use what i have already... thank you guys for the help...
