I wouldn't put anything painted in personally. If it leeched anything out your cheap fix to have black could have very costly consequences.

Krylon fusion has been proven to work in the water without any negative effects. I personally have had two different tanks that I used it to paint the pvc black in the water.

thanks, i quess that if you let it sit for a while
it would just get colored in coraline
but if i could paint it black that would be better

i agree black looks a lot better, but it will turn green and purple with algae in a couple months anyways...not worth the risk of contamination IMO

Fusion works just fine as long as its dried well enough.. Haven't seen any harmful effects 2 years after it was painted and placed in the tank before setup..

so thats what i will do, i'll stay with the not painted pvc and just wait

You do have one more option.
Smear the PVC primer on it so it looks like it is already covered in coraline. The primer is also proven safe as the plumbing is affixed with it. No plumbing job is that neat, to not have it exposed.

Agreed, Krylon Fusion has been on the market long enough to have been proven safe. There are really only so many components to paint, all of which, after curing thoroughly, are pretty inert.

can you paint pvc pipe and put it in the tank

I use the purple primer for PVC which is inert once dry. eventually the primer is covered with purple coraline anyway, so it looks like it belongs there.
