I need to paint a room only problem is my reef tank is in the room. Any one ever done this.

Yes I have done this... I put fans in the windows...blowing OUT to remove paint fumes and another blowing over the tank so nothng settles on the tarp/sheet. Cover the tank with tarp or sheet. Shut off filters...left the power heads run. Left the lights off for the day. Paint around the tank first.
Everything was fine.

another option is to "bubble" the tank. Put a plastic sheet over the tank, lights off of course, and then attach ducting to the plastic that leads to a fan blowing IN. Of course, the tank sheeting has to be sealed pretty well...
good luck!

Well my lights hang from the ceiling and the tank is all most in the middle of the floor and my sump/fuge sits next to the stand. My biggest worry is the fumes.

I like this idea but how does the air escape?

jus did that last month, all i did was put the drop cloth over the top of the tank when i was painting around that area. basicly left the windows wide open and had fans on. everything is still alive to this day

What kind of paint are you using? If you are just using ordinary latex wall paint, don't sweat it. I've painted around tanks - taking no special precautions - so many times that I can say with reasonable confidence that you'll be fine.
IMO humans in the room not wearing respirators would keel over long before the water absorbs enough VOCs to affect your livestock.
If you mean how do you paint behind the tank... paint around it and save some paint for the day you move the tank. My reef tank has like 3 colors behind it becuase we've changed the color the room several times since the tank has been there.

Getting to the back is no problem it's in the middle of the floor. My tank is open and so is my sump.

How long can a tank go without light? The tank is mostly LPS', SPS' and a few large Leathers. It's going to take a few days to strip repaint and dry. I am going to do a two tone blue. Lighter on the top and fade to a darker blue halfway down the wall. The tank is the only thing in the room other than two arm chairs and a end table. So the room itself will be the back ground for the tank.

we've done it. plastic tarp over the whole tank. no problem. of course you may not be able to get everywhere behind the tank which could be a problem if the room is changing colors. If its not too close to the wall a long roller can probably get behind it.
