Painting back of glass tank?

I want to paint the back of my 65 gallon tank black on the outside.
Will any paint do, or do I need a special kind?

I don't know what others use, by regular krylon spray paint works just fine. Just don't get any inside the tank.

Gloss or flat?

It doesn't matter because the glass is smooth and shiny so a matte finish will look glossy anyway.

does it matter on acrylic or will Spray Paint work just the same as on glass?

Do you have to rough up the glass 1st?

don't rough up the glass. use a acrylic or laytex paint. use a roller to apply it.

I used an acrylic from a major craft store and used a smooth roller. After several coats it had great coverage. Cost me about $7 all together.

A few of the LFS around here sell different backings that can be applied like window tint. I used blue for my reef tank and black for my QT. I gotta tell you it was pretty easy to apply and sounds easier than painting.
