Pajama Cardinal sick??

I have two PJ cardinals and one of them has been mostly staying under the overflow box, doesn't come out to eat. Looks as though his lower Jaw is fat, really fat, Like a mouth full of snuff. lol other than that, he visually looks fine.
I dont know much after 13 years except "if it wont eat, it usually dies".
Could it be eggs? Cardinals are mouth brooders right?

ur cardinal has a mouth full of eggs. cardinals of all kinds, the males, will not eat for almost a month while they have the eggs in their mouth. if they weren't fed correctly or fattened up they will swallow the eggs before they die.

My wife has been saying for months that this fish is realllly getting FAT. I been saying yeah...ok.
If it is eggs will he spit out fry?
