Where not going with the 3D either. Thought about it, but there's not enough movies out there yet. By the time their is, technology will have changed again.

3-D can be cool for some movies at the theaters, such as Avatar, but I don't want it for home use.
I was always a Sony fan, but got a Samsung LCD last year and was sold on it. Great picture. Got another Samsung LED recently for my bedroom. Very nice.

Just boxed up the 58 inch... it was just too huge for us. Plus, we already have a wall mount for TV's up to 55 inches so we're going to look for something a little smaller... both for the room and the wall mount.
Best Buy has a deal going right now - $999 for a 50 inch plasma. The only reason I'm not sure is because the LCD's have a different kind of image smoothing that really looks good with the 120hz. Plasmas use a different kind of refresh rate that boasts 600hz, but I still think the LCD 120hz looks better. I dunno... guess I'll keep looking around.
FYI - the discounts employees get at best buy are awesome. This Panasonic TV goes for $1899. I got it for $1276. Sony TV's are the best. They're selling a 55 LCD that's going for $1999. With my discount, $863. No, I'm not exaggerating.

Seems to me the Sony would be a no brainer. I need to meet someone who works for Best buy, I'd like to move the plasma to the little family room and get a LCD for the living room.

I need to get my daughter a job at Best Buy.

my father in law bought a LED flat screen recently and I can't stand it. The picture is so amazing that it makes everything that is fake look fake. And I mean everything. theback drops stick out like sore thumbs as actually being backdrops. the lighting direction becomes very apparent. I don't know if there is such a thing as too good, but this would have to be it.
I don't go there to watch movies anymore becuase it just ruins the whole experience when the detail distracts you from the movie itself.
Now sports! thats an entirely different story. Football over there is friggin awesome.
I have a panisonic 42" plasma Ive had for 3 years and I love it

My wife says the same thing, you see all the little things you miss with the lower definition and the sets look bad.

I just brought home a 50 inch samsung plasma (my discount was $941, normally $1299, on sale through Saturday for $999) and it's already heads and shoulders above the panasonic. Samsung just makes great TV's. I didn't have enough $$$ to get the LCD. Maybe someday. In the meantime, 1080p @ 600hz is good enough for me.
I like the LED's but they're just so bright that I can't watch them for extended periods of time. Even when you turn the LED brightness down, it's still pretty bright for watching movies in a dark room late at night.

I thought the same thing when we got this LCD with the 1080 and 1080 cable. I was watching Van Helsing and I complained I could "see" the set. It was hard to explain otherwise, but it sounds like you know what I mean. That goes away. After awhile you don't notice that and all you see is how sharp it is.

Directly comparing the 'published' refresh rate of plasmas to LCDs, isn't very valid. Plasmas a have natural, instantaneous response time, 0.001ms or so. There is no question plasmas have better response time and are less prone to motion blur.
LCDs with 120hz and 240hz (LEDs) rates, achieve those rates (120 and 240 frames a second) by interpolating images. Plasmas get their 600hz rating by displaying 10 'sub-field' (images) at 60hz (60hz x10 = 600hz).
