It never ceases to amaze me at how the most innocuous, unspectacular moments can be so meaningful.
Tonight we had a quiet, family night. Wife brought some pizza home, we gave the girls a bath and then put the baby (Sadie, 1.5 yrs) to bed at her bedtime, around 8:30. Brooklyn, 3, and the wife and I settled in to watch a movie.
Well Sadie decided that she wasn't going to bed. She was in a great mood all day but was screaming and crying in her crib. Eventually we relented and just brought her downstairs to hang out and, hopefully, fall asleep. Didn't quite work out the way we planned...
From the moment she was brought down, this little monkey was running all around, screaming and giggling, just trying to have some fun. She would run up to me and scream and then get hysterical when I'd pull the blanket over my head. Then she'd run to my wife and bounce up and down screaming and giggling when my wife acted scared. She put my baseball cap on backwards and danced to the music on TV. She tried to eat the ottoman and basically flipped out. Then Brooklyn wanted to join in the fun so whatever Sadie would do, she would do just a bit louder, faster or wilder. My wife and I had a laugh attack just watching them.
The moral of the story is just that it seems to be the simplest things that mean the most with the kids. When my daughter comes up to me and gives me a hug and says, "Daddy, I missed you when you were at work."... I melt. It's those basic moments of cuddling, playing, laughing that comprise the greatest moments that I've had thus far in my life.
Just something that was on my mind tonight...

Thanks for reminding me Crimz......With 3 around here, I find myself wanting to retreat to those isolated spots around the house to avoid. But I know what you are sayin'....

You're totally right, crimzy! Those are the memories you will think of years from now! Gotta remember to take the time to enjoy those little things.

It's a strange dynamic. I also enjoy my time away, whether it's with my wife, with the boys, or just by myself. But when I'm with my girls, at certain moments, they have a way of just yanking my heart out of my chest and holding it in their little hands... doing what they want with it.
Maybe a graphic analogy but it's all I got right now.

I'll tell you this much, I don't know what it's like to have a son, but EVERY MAN should have the opportunity to have a daughter in his life.

this what a 12 ga shotgun is for, u meet the boy on the front porch, or, better yet, sit in a chair just inside the door, polishing the barrel or something, and as the boy comes through the door with ur daughter, u rack a shell into the chamber :p

I have two daughters 9 and 14 and it is a beating. I love my girls and enjoy being with them but as the oldest starts adolesence it becomes more of a challenge. My oldest went to her first high school dance this year and i shook the boy's hand and told him that "you are responsible for the safety and hapiness of my daughter and if you hurt her i will break every bone in your body" Then with a big smile I slaped him on the back and said "have fun".
Men, you have to give your daughters the emotional needs that she requires to grow, if not she will find --- and love early because she is lacking her fathers love.

Crimzy, that sounded like an absolutely wonderful time for your girls and one that they will most certainly remember. Sounds like a successful moment in life to me

I would love to have a girl someday, but then I know my niece. She is almost 14 and nasty as all get out to her mother. My sister is as cool as can be with her but man this girl has an evil streak. All girls that age do. Be ready dad

Crimzy...I tried 3 times for a daughter. There was nothing else in this world that I would have rather had at the time. Instead, I was blessed with 3 sons, which I would give my life for any one of the 3 of them. But since I am stuck with 3 boys, my philosophy is....GO GET EM' BOYS!!!!!!!!! So your girls should watch out.........

You want to know what I'm really worried about? They say that girls like boys like their fathers. If my girls ever brought home a boy who was like me at that age...

In reading your post, I found a misprint in mine....I meant to say "GO GET EM' BOYS", not "go get boys"........

Hope you caught the misprint.
I agree with the saying you state above, and if you look at 99% of the "couple hook-ups" in society, it is EXACTLY that way. So whether you like it or not, your daughters will, by statistics, bring home someone who has some qualities/traits that you have...
