Well we adopted the one, the owner and bird were scared of each other... he's gotten better where he doesn't mind us around --- but just doesn't want to be handled or bothered but no longer frantically gets as far away as possible. Tolerates us unless he thinks we're going after him for a wing clipping.

I love the birds. I have three myself. A little parakeet named Bob and two baby cockatiels. They're hand shy though so slowly working on gaining confidence. They don't mind my hand being in the cage anymore but still leary about me touching them. How long have you had yours? They're coloration is gorgeous.

That’s pretty good for just learning a new camera. I have had my camera for months and can't get pics like that.
I have a Blue Front Amazon as well. He is still very young and his color isn't as intense. His name is Jellybean Jorge. He was born Mothers day of 2007. His eyes haven't turned red yet. He is a hand fed baby and super tame. Lies on his back in my arms like a baby.
He says all kinds of things, and laughs at himself. I am not any good at pictures, but here is what I got.
I have a Blue Front Amazon as well. He is still very young and his color isn't as intense. His name is Jellybean Jorge. He was born Mothers day of 2007. His eyes haven't turned red yet. He is a hand fed baby and super tame. Lies on his back in my arms like a baby.

Holly our Blue Front is going to be 6 years old in June and Petri our Lovebird will be 7.
Holly is my buddy, she talks, calls for me by name, takes showers with us, likes watching comedy shows with the canned laughter so she knows when to laugh too.
We had an umbrella cockatoo we adopted for awhile.. but the sheer volume of the bird and attention it needed (with us having a new baby and me being on shift work) we gave her back up for adoption and has a new good home.
We actually had Holly fly away on us a few summers ago -- I made the mistake of taking her on the deck to make a phone call late at night and she actually took off (never flew more than 15 - 20 feet before). Well some record setting 100 degree days and 9 days later someone called her in and she was in their tree by a river talking. She sleep for a few days straight practically and a vet visit later she was just a little dehydrated. She actually burned the area around her eyes where her skin shows and ended up peeling. She hates it outside now.
She is super friendly with us but hates strangers -- although if we take her somewhere and walk out of the room she will go to other people. Amazons are strong bonders... and very smart -- love my Holly

Oh, btw Flower --- glad to see you actually have toys for your bird to play with too. The stores here sell bird toys but have none with their birds (actually bought Holly from a really good place that wasn't local). You would think if you sold the birds, the toys, you would practice what you preach but being part of the rescue for awhile --- lots of poor neglected ones out there.
I think Saltwater and Bird owners are either super really good, or just terrible in that they refuse to put effort into anything that can look so good.
Now.. if I can just take descent coral pictures.... having a REALLY tough time with that.

I had to look up the thread it really got buried. I was busy and couldn't get right back.
You are really fortunate to have gotten Holly back, I lost a Red lorde Amazon that flew away and I never got him back. I waited for years before getting Jellybean.
He is sooo spoiled. He has a sleeping cage besides the big one in the picture. I have a soft perch in it and a single toy so he won't feel neglected. He gets a treat every night as I put him to bed.
I would say I can't wait for the Jellybean to get his vibrant colors... but that would mean he is all grown up, and I would be wishing away his childhood years. I enjoy every minute of him.

Jellybean still a little clumsy then? Holly would walk down her perch and actually walk right off as a young bird.
Holly LOVES cheerios -- thinks their the worlds best treats... but even better is giver her a spoon with a dab of peanut butter on and she totally knows how not to drop it.
I love the blue fronts and yellow naped amazons -- I think it's their eyes and black beaks for some reason

How about some baby pictures. Jellybean hatched Mothers day May 13 2007. I bought an egg.
I have progression pictures but I didn't want to bore you to death with baby pics...so I am posting three. The last picture is what was sent to me just before he was weaned and shipped to Wisconsin from California.
The first pictures accompanied an e-mail which read...Happy Mother’s day your baby your baby hatched this morning.
How could something born so ugly become the incredible beauty that a Blue Front Amazon becomes.

Cutest thing he has done, and he does plenty...he fed the dog his broccoli, all on his own (well the dog was in on it) I tried to get it on video but by the time I got it out he was done.
He couldn't fit it through the bars of his cage sideways, so he took it, turned it and pointed it, till it would go through and gave it to him. That's pretty smart for a 1 yr old. It takes a mind to figure out how to problem solve. He loves his broccoli, he just wanted to share.
He always hangs upside down by one foot on his toys and I would say monkeeey birrrd, now when he does it, he says monkeeey, monkeeey birrd, it’s the funniest thing I taught him. I also taught him to say quack, quack...I'm a duck.

Get a shower perch -- they suction cup on the wall and can stay out of the main stream of water... after I'm done with my shower -- she's already has her wings outstretched and then climb on my arm and continue flapping around (most of the time).... other times I just drench her to make sure she gets rinsed off. Every great once in awhile I shampoo her down with bird shampoo -- poor thing looks like a drowned rat afterwards.
After her shower we have to put a warm bowl of water in her playstand as she finishes her shower with a bath.
I subscribe to this thread so it won't get lost -- just might not be able to check much is all
