Hi. I can't figure out this problem I have with my filteration system. My tank has been running for a year. And recently I notice particles coming into the tank from the return line. So I cleaned up the bottom of the wet/dry, which was full of a lot of particles. But threw the return line in the tank, the particles still appear.I thought it was my skimmer, so I unplugged it.After I did, I didn't notice a lot of particles, but it was still coming into the tank from the return line. This problem is driving me crazy.I am thinking the return line in the overflow is clog with particles-? Help !!!

Sense you already cleaned the sump... the pump could probably use a cleaning also. I'd give it a few days to see if it clears up. If not, try to find out if it's air bubbles or something else.

Mine does the same things. It is small white, but not egg shapped like bubbles or eggs, just small almost dust like, but some larger oieces also, some of the particles are eaten by the fish, while others are ignored or they put them in their mouths and spit them back out.

did you build the sump yourself? is it plumbed with pvc? did you just assemble it recently? maybe its little shavings of plastic?

I'm having the same problem. I do have a little sand in my sump, but I never noticed it coming up into the tank before I added my skimmer. Now that you got me thinking about it, I kow that my pump for the skimmer and pump for the return touch each other. It so crammed in there, I couldn't fit it any other way. I wonder if it's causing a vibration that is lifting the sand. You wouldn't by chance have two pumps touching as well?? My stuff is store bought, btw. I have tried building anything myself... yet. ;-)

How do i clean the filter-? Use freshwater-? The particles that is coming up threw the overflow look like dust or little grains of salt. I do notice that when I shut the skimmer off, iI see less particles coming out threw the overflow. My skimmer is a hang-on Seaclone. The sump is Amircale, I bought a year ago used.In the overflow it is plumbed with PVC.I am thinking maybe the hose from the filter to overflow is dirty-? Or maybe the PVC shaft in the overflow has particles in it-? If so how to clean it-? Is this a common problem-? The tank has been running for a year now, and I just noticed these particles coming up for the past week now.

Well, I moved the hangout skimmer from the tank, and put it in the sump, and I got the same thing. So I took out the PVC in the overflow, and disconnected the filter and hoses, and cleaned out the sludge in them. And i still get the same result.I notice that my live rock are all cover with the same particles, is that normal-? Also i still notice that when I turn the skimmer off, I see less particles coming out the sump and into the tank. So I think I tried everything, I need HELP !!!

Another thing I just realize, for the past year I've been running my tank, when it comes to feeding time, I usually unplug my filter for about ten minutes, then plug it back in. So I am wondering by doing that for a whole year, did I do damage to the pump-? Causing it to spit particles into my tank-? HELP !
