PC Lighting???

We ordered a light hood for two tanks we are starting up at our LFS. The hoods are the exact same ones that they are using on thier display tank. However, no one at the store can tell me what type of lighting it is. They sell this type of bulb for it:
Marine-Glo Fluorescent Aquarium Lamp

Is this PC Lighting? Will it be enough for a reef tank? Price wise, they said the 10 gallong hood is $175 and the 29 gallon would run around $300.

Nope, those are normal output fluorescents... NOT power compacts. If your looking at reef lighting you do not want those.

I'm still pretty new to all this, but would PC lighting require just a different bulb, or a whole new hood system completely?
Either way, do you know where I can purchase it?

Unfortunately, PC lighting requires it's own socket and ballast. Complete hood systems are on the market with everything needed to run PC lights packed inside the fixture.
A good one to look at is the Coralife Aqualight. Here's a picture to give you an idea of what the fixture looks like.

also with the hood a lot of people (myself included) don't really use a hood. I have a 30 g a with coralife lights that run the whole top 2*65 W That is my hood. I just don't put any jumpers in my tank. HTH

Thanks for the replies. I got the Coralife PC 130 watt hood w/moonlight. Its a 24 inch hood and my tank's 30 inches, so I'm gonna hang it off of some brackets.

They have the legs that are for those lights also that set on the edges of the tank so you wouldent have to hang them if you wanted.

Its a 24 in hood on a 30 in tank though. The place I went to didn't have any legs that would work. Hanging it shouldn't be bad though. It'll give me an extra self on top of the L bracketsl. :D

I have that same setup and your right, the legs only extend 28". I have a 30gal cube and the legs fit on that, but they won't fit on a standard 30.
