does anyone know how long the bulbs are supposed to work, I bought a pc setup 2 weeks ago new and one half of the actinic bulbs has went out. I bought this from my lfs and there was no paperwork what so ever in the box. The lady at the lfs had them displayed over one of her empty tanks.please advise! thanks
this is a current usa satellite light

Unless its a ballast or socket or wiring problem, bulbs are not usually warranted, but they should have lasted a lot longer than that time frame. Try talking to the lfs owner maybe they will have a bit of mercy and good faith and make things right for you. Does not hurt to ask.

In my pc fixture the actinics were going out. They'd work a few days, then go back off, then work, etc. I cleaned the pins really good and the sockets, and they worked perfectly for about two days, now they are off again. These are brand new bulbs. Check the pins for corrosion, and make sure they are plugged in all the way. If you still can't get them to work, check with the lfs--it could be a ballast if it isn't the bulbs.

I thought the same thing when I bought mine. That is actually how they are supposed to be. I have Orbit PC lights and I freaked out when I turned mine on. I even called their support about it. You are good to go!!!

they are supposed to hold K rating for 8-10 months. if you have a 2 bulbs unit try moving that bulb to the other side and see if it works if it does then there is a problem with the fixture if it doesnt then its usually the bulb. there are many things that can go wrong with any bulb so I would talk to the LFS and see if there is a way to get another. most companies can return defective lights to their sources just have to check with the LFS to see if they can and if they have a warranty on them.
I have a set that I use over my houseplants thats where my retired reef bulbs go to and they have been going strong for almost 5 years now but the K rating has switched so they arent good for reef aplications anymore.

If you have a half and half actinic bulb then the actinic 03 side will look much dimmer then the other side of the actinic bulb. I think that is what shogun is saying too..

You need to do some testing, take your bulbs out and try them 1 by 1 , I would say there should be some kinda of instant warranty from the lfs, It is completely possible you have a bad unit! Test it out , form your own conclusions, talk to the LFS!
Good Luck!
