Pc lights

I was thinking of buying some pc lights (2 55watt bulbs) and i was wondering if i needed a fan for it, and how long will they last me. I currently have a 40 gallon tank with regular flourescent lights and i wanted to start getting into soft corals. Will this light be sufficient for me? I dont have that much money so the pc's are all that i can afford. Also, i heard that you have to buy a new fixture about every year or so? Is this correct? Any help would be appreciated.

How is your canopy designed? I don' t have a canopy , my pc's are just suspended on stilts above the tank and they keep my aquarium at 81 degrees during the day with my heater plugged in. If you have an enclosed canopy, with no back, you MIGHT have to add fans, but chances are they won't get hot enough to add severe heat to your aquarium. Of course each persons aquarium has different factors controlling heat. Where it's (the tank) placed, what kind of canopy, how far off the water, how long the light will be run during the day. It all really depends, I would say just put them on and monitor their effect on the aquariums temperature. During the summer, you may have to have the fans no matter what, but you never know until you try.
