yep just ran into my first problem. didnt use common sense, the stock water guard, i was sittin there and smelled something burning. the bulb burnt right through the plastic waterguard so tomorrow i gotta go pick up some glass to use. wooooooops

Sweet, how hard was it? Did you get instructions or just figure it out? Any pics, before and after's of the tank would be great. How long did it take you to do it? I know I talked to you earlier about this and was really looking to see how yours turned out to take the plunge myself. Looks like you did a really good job

and THANKS spanko! it wasnt even really that hard. took about an hour. I am the farthest from knowing what im doin with electrical work and it wasnt bad. i cant wait to get the same 70 MH on the new aquapod i just picked up for 50 bucks locally with 18lbs of liverock 20lbs of livesand! thought it was a pretty good deal

i think im gonna go get some glass and try and cut out the middle of the plastic water guard and set it into that. it only burnt one spot of the water guard so im hoping that will work. im also gonna go to radio shack and pick up another fan and mount it so it blows across the bulb to help with heat

wow i good job but i am shocked it would melt the guard. i run a 150 and it does not get even close to hot enought to melt the shield. does it have the uv glass?

ya the uv glass is on it. it was prolly about a half inch away from the water guard. im puttin pics up now. lol

heres the pics. i took the waterguard off and turned it around and tried to move the fans a little but it didnt help i def need a fan blowing across the bulb. there isnt any water temp change yet but the bulbs been on for only an hour. and this is the tank with the bulb on. u cant really tell the difference in the pics, but wow in person its a huggggge difference. the shimmer is sick. top pic is with MH, bottom with just PC

i dunno how much of a fan i am of SPS. i def wanna get a cool clam possibly tho, lol. my LFS is so freakin expensive i just wait to get stuff from people on here. im itchin to get something right now tho!

The only place I'd put xenia is in its own "refugium" where you harvest it and pitch it in the trash.. exports nitrates and phosphates like a mofo.
