pearly jaw fish

I just got a pearly jaw fish and as expected he immediately made his cave under a rock and I haven't seen him since. I know that this is the nature of this fish but how do I know if he's ok or even eating. I'd hate to think I spend 20 bucks on a fish I'll never see.

Give a day or two to get comfortable they are sgy fish to start with but in time the little beauty will be out near the entrance to its hole watching everyone. At night they will go in their hole and pull a rock or pebble over the entrance for the night. They love to pile pretty little rocks around the entrance to their home.
