Anybody ever heard of it or been on one of the trips?
I was invited to it and we went to the orientation thing today. It sounds pretty fun to me but costs a pretty a penny. It's a 19 day trip to England and France. We get to do things like see the changing of the gaurds, go to the top of the Eifel (sp?) tower, ride the biggest faris wheel in the world, go to a castle, go the Louve (sp? the museum with the Mona Lisa), and a bunch of other stuff if we go.
Apparently it was started by President Eisenhower and isn't the easiest thing to get into. You have to get two teacher recomendations and one recomendation from an adult that's not related to you. Then go through an interview. There was about 150 or so people at the orientation that were invited and only 40 can go on the trip.
Has anyone done anything like this before?

I'd love to go but I don't know if I can because of the cost. It's $5,400 plus $255 air fare and souvenir money.

That's a lot of money!!! I'd go if I were you. I'd do anything to get to France!!! I've always wanted to go to the Louvre ever since we studied it in French. To answer your question I have not been on a trip like that. It's cheaper if you go on that kinda trip with a school. I've been trying to get my French teacher to plan a trip to France but not sure if that will happen this year. Idea...why don't you do a little research on the places you would be goin then decide if you want to go or not.

Have been reading your posts for awhile. You seem very fond of France? Why not move there permanantly?

Too expensive to live there :notsure: . How can it be so great then?
Just change your citizenship to France, request political asylum and you will never have to deal with us Americans again.

What the heck is your problem Phixer. Tryin to start something. I'm an American and plan to be one all my life. Not sayin this in a a rude way but do you have a problem with that? What's great about France? I hate the English language. It's stupid all the stupid grammer rules I never use unless I write an essay. French is a lot easier than English. Plus, I don't like some Americans sayin that everthing thing that happens on this planet is our fault. End of discussion because this post wasn't meant to start some stupid debate about France.

i went on the 5th/6th grade Hawaii trip 2 summers ago , it was AWSOME, the leaders were really nice (one was my teacher from 5th grade), the trip was shorter than yours, only 15 days, but its probley the best place i have ever been.We went snorkling off the big island (i think, it might have been Oahu, im not sure) which got me interested into SWF, the only thing i didnt like much was we stayed in dorms most of the time which sucked, and we camped at Volcano National park for 2 days. You should really take advantage of the oppurtunity, also i think once you go on one trip you can go on any of the trips for the following years, and you dont have to do the interview thing again (i think)

The Austraila trip sounded fun too. They got to snorkle on the Great Barrier Reef.
I know alot of classes at my school go on trips during the summer. I know the AP European classes and the Spanish and French 3&4 classes went to Europe and my English teacher from last year took some people somewhere over the summer too.
I guess I'll try to get the recommendations tommorow and hope my parents will atleast let me try.

My bosses son just went to on the Australia trip this summer through the people to people program. He had a blast. They got to see everything including the Great Barrier Reef. The price may be steep but the experience will be well worth it. It is a chance to see new places and learn about another culture.
In regards to France, I went there about 6 years ago. I worked for a restaurant that sent me over to study winemaking in the bordeaux region. I stayed in

[hr]
for a couple days and spent an afternoon (not nearly enough) exploring the Louvre. It was amazing.

That sounds awesome!!! Yeah Bordeaux has the finest wines in the world. An afternoon isn't near enough time to check The Louvre out because it's HUGE. haha.

My daughter got invited to go on the England trip but no way am I letting my 11 year old go on a 20 day trip to another country w/o a parent.
She also got invited to go on a trip to Yosemite and the Grand Canyon last year, but about a month after we got the letter we got another one saying they messed up and she wasn't old enough yet. :notsure:
