Where do you have your tank? Is it on a second floor, first floor?
I want to get a 180 gallon all glass and have been reading past posts and there is mixed consensus. Even read a cheery report on the Chiclid forum from a structural engineer. My friends say yit should be fine it goes perp on the floor and against the wall.
I need some advice... please. Thanks!

i would post mine on the first floor IMO. but if u do put ur tank in a second floor put it in a corner or along a wall. in the middle has the least support

Another thing that will help is to put your stand on a sheet of plywood. This will help distribute the weight.

Now I read that plywood does a minimal job of displacement.
I'm now thinking of a 180 all glass with a larger footprint (ie distibuting the weight through a larger reinforced frame.

I have my 125 on the first floor of an old house, built around 1900. And the structure seems like it's sturdier than some new houses. We have a basement under the room that we don't use so I added 2 10' floor jacks with a 2x8 along the floor joists. And I managed to get it across 5 joists I believe. I know it sounds like overkill, but I have a lot of time and money invested in this and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Hi,
You may also want to consider running your tank against the floor joists vs. running it parallel to them. That way you are distributing the weight over 4.5 joists (16" on center) vs. running the tank parallel to 2 joists.

Be carefull I have seen 125 gal set up crash thro the 2nd floor. Not a pretty sight. I would put it on the 1st floor. It took weeks to clean up and get rid of the smell. He ran the tank parallel to the wall.

Didn't mean to scare ya but you gotta look at it from both ends. Maybe you can get a contractor out and see if there is a way or maybe adding more support from the 1st floor?
