Peppermint shrimp?

how long does it take to get one to eat the pest anemones in my tank? had him for acouple days and shows no interest in them and just likes to hide. bout to feed him to my puffers- haha. thanks

Some of them won't touch the aiptasia....some will..depends on the one you get.

The shrimp actively search for food at night so you're not likely to see much going on during the day.

i have 3 and they only stay on one side of the tanks so one side is clean and the other has them...strange to me

should i buy another shrimp then? or just buy joes juice to kill the ones i can ge ttoo?

Our Peppermint shrimp ate all of the aipstia but will not touch the mojano. They are fun to watch and are beneficial in ways you can't see. Don't feed it to anyone.

I don't know if it is true or not, but LFSs have told me that they do best in groups of at least 3. The bigger the group you get, the more likely they are to come out during the day (according to LFS). So I bought a group of about 5 and barely ever saw them again. I never really saw my aipstia population go down since I would look at it ever day, but about a month later, I realized that ALL of it was gone and has never come back. So my recommendation is to buy a couple more and give them time. The chemical or hot water tricks don't have a very good success rate, at least for me (I tried all of them). When the peppermint shrimp get really big, they will get more bold and come out during the day. I had a huge one that loved to "run" back and forth along my rocks at feeding time.

I have a cleaner shrimp that likes to "clean" my fingers when I'm doing maintence. Last time I was in the tank, the peppermint shrimp got curious and started picking at my fingers too! They really do have personality!

I used to keep Peppermint Shrimp in my reef to keep aiptasia at bay, but as soon as the aiptasia was gone, they would start to eat polyps off of all my corals. I'm not the only person this has happened to, though as you've read in this thread, others have had much better luck than me with these shrimp; just something else to consider.

ah man i hope he doesn't eat my corals... i have tons of star polpys all over my tank three diff kinds.
