u shouldnt really buffer your ph 8.0 is fine

IMO it is more important for the ph to be stable, so if it stays at 8.0 so be it. Corals start to react when the ph fluctuates. When are you testing the ph? The ph will lower some in the early am (after the lights turn on it will rise again). This is why they recommend a light on your refugium/sump to stablize the ph. Always test at the same time every time.

Anything in the 8.0-8.4 range is good. Stability is most important.

Just a quick thought here. Since you mentioned you used half a bottle of Marine buffer I would be interested in knowing how your alkalinity tests out. I am guessing it will be pretty high. Keeping the alkalinity buffered at the proper amount will help a lot to keep your PH stable.

He already said his ph was stable. In his mind, that was his problem... his ph doesn't move off of 8.0 no matter what he does. He's probably going to be like me. My ph is stable at 8.4... I seem to hold that ph all the time... but my alk is high because I use to dose with a buffer on water changes.
I quit dosing, and just let my water changes do the trick. My alk will probably slowly go down as time goes on.

my tank goes from a low of 7.77 to a high of 8.15 so Ph will swing and even if its stable at 8.0 ur fine u probably just dont want it to be stable at 7.7 all the time..
if everyones happy ur fine
i used to worry with low Ph do to my calcium reactor so i added a fresh air line to the skimmer and that seemed to help some
