pH of RO water?

Mine is at 7.0 always out of the jug. During QT I kept a bucket aerating and buffered it to 8.0 for top offs.

the Ph of Ro water should be 7.0. never higher if it is higher something is making it through to make buffer the water higher if its lower and some form of acid is making it through. the PH of 100% pure water is 7.0

sounds like they need to change their filters.

that's what i always thought, but i tested it twice and got 8.4. so... now i guess i gotta check my filters on my RO setup? or should i be using a freshwater pH test kit?

you should be using freshwater but as far as I know PH kits are universal FW/SW its just the range they are calculated to show. high range or low range. check your filters and make sure they are seated correctly. how many gallons have you proccessed?

heck, i have no clue. i've been trying to get a TDS meter but they are so darnted expensive. i've had the RO unit for about 6 months though.

probably time to change your filters, they say they are good for about 1000 gallons but it really depends on the TDS/DOC levels of your source water. do you purge your DI membrane?

don't have DI, just RO.
i'm thinking i've had the ro unit for more like 8 or 9 months, goodness maybe even longer. time flies. i've changed out the white filter 3 or 4 times.

What's your waste ratio for the RO unit? You using a clean collection device?
pH of RO water is tricky. In theory, a drop of buffer can sky rocket your pH because the lack of acid to counter act the base. Properly aged RO water (CO2 saturation) should have a pH of around 6.5.
9 months of usage for a RO membrane seems way too short. Best if you get that TDS or have a LFS test it with a freshwater kit.

probably about 2-3x waste water. hard to tell cause i have it go directly into my sump in the basement.
it does though take 2 days to fill a 30 gallon container, and it is supposed to be a 24gpd unit, but i'm also on well so my pressure is about 55psi instead of the 65psi it requires and no where near the temperature it asks for.

The pH of pure water should be 7.0 Any change reflects other materials dissolving in the water. For example, carbon dioxide from the air will dissolve in RODI water, forming carbonic acid which, although a weak acid, will gradually acidify the water. I don't let my RODI sit around, but immediately make it up into seawater since there are pH buffers included in every saltwater mix.

what do you use for make up water? i have 30ish gal of water in the basement with a cover on it at almost all times.
pretty lucky too, cause i'm using it for hypo :)

Always a pH of 7.0 which is neutral. Check your TDS meter to make sure that you don't have excessive organics in your water that are coming through.

I use RODI, and I don't worry about the pH since it is not well buffered, and the tank water is.

How long should you let your saltwater age before adding it to the tank and what should the ph be for it? Do i need to buffer it before adding?

12 hours is good, 24 hours is better. use a powerhead to aerate the water (one that has the hose attachments). your pH of your salt water should be the same (or close) to your tank water. the temp should be about the same as well.
