Don't ever use chemicals to artificially raise PH.
Low PH is a symptom that something is wrong. Using chemicals to raise PH will just mask the symptom without fixing the problem. First thing, what is your PH and what time of day are you testing it?
These are common causes for low PH to check for:
Low Alkalinity or unbalanced Alkalinity & Calcium
Dirty Mechanical Filters
Undersized/malfunctioning Skimmer
Rotting food or corpse
High room CO2
Insufficient gas exchange (glass cover, etc)
Excess algae

Can excess chaeto cause it? I thought ph increased during the day with algae and decreased at lights out unless you run a 24/7 lighted fuge.

If you light 24/7 then it's not going to be a problem.
But if you don't light 24/7 and have lots & lots of Chaeto it will consume Co2 when the lights are on and keep PH high but when the lights are off if will produce CO2 along with all the diatoms, Coralline, fish & corals and this can lower PH a lot.
If you only have a moderate amount of algae then the Alkalinity will be enough to keep PH somewhat stable. It's when there's an excess that can cause PH to drop.
