Ph Spike Help!!

I was testing my water today and everything was normal, am 0, trites 0, trates 0 but my PH was at 8.8!! it is usually around 8.2 or a hair lower. What could have caused this? I haven't done anything special to the tank. Added a hippo tang and anemone but that is it. I switched to a sand bed from cc about a month and a half ago but I had been watching levels and nothing happened. Any ideas? I am doing a partial water change now to try and get it down.

Did you test more than once to rule out error? If so do you dose anything ,Buffers......?

I do not does. I only tested once. I did a partial water change and it is down to 8.2 now so I will just keep testing and keep an eye on it.

Probably a mis-test. Its rare, but it happens every once in awhile. What test kit are you using?
