for a sw setup 7.8 to 8.4 with consistency being the key. Fluctuating PH causes problems usually ending in stressed and sick fish.

Your pH will shift slighty when your lights are on and off but as long as you stay between 7.8 to 8.4 without any major swings as mentioned by Greatfullreefer you should be fine

my tank for whatever reason is not holding 8.2, but its holding 7.8 with no problems whatsoever.
if i allow extra time during acclimation, is this going to be a problem in the long run?

IMO 7.8 is fine as long as it is consistant.
