i just put in 140LBS of Florida LR and LS in my new SW tank. The LS is about 1 inch high, so Im not sure how much it weights or the LR weighs.
anyway, my tank stinks now.
is the odor normal??? the LR was actually taken directly from the Gulf of Mexico 2 days ago. So its not uncured, i would imagine its cured. right? the smell seems to be of the osean... What do you think?
:nervous:

It's not cured.....LR is cured after it's removed from the water.
What you have in your tank is uncured LR, that's why it stinks...Your starting to get die-off.:scared: :D

I think you should be running a protien skimmer 24/7.
You will also need to do some water changes if the smell gets to bad. When the cycle is complete I would suggest a 30% water change as well before adding any livestock. Keep track of the ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.

Smells like you don't need a shrimp for your cycle. Yep, that's about all you can do is sit back and watch, but on the good side-now is the time to do your research. By research, I mean read books, posts on this board or any web searches you can think of. You'll need kits for ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, ph, at the least.

You may or may not see any pods or worms. Check in the middle of the night with a flashlight, if they're in there you'll see them scurry. For right now, I'd test twice a week. My ammonia dropped from off the chart to 0, overnight, but you have to wait on the nitrates to drop also.
I don't know anything about your skimmer, maybe someone else will pick this up.

I've never used that skimmer but I've only seen bad comments on it. everyone seem to end up tossing it and getting a diffrent type. IMO, don't get it. I would try and get the best skimmer you can afford. This is one piece of equipment I would not skimp on. an you don't need it now. I'd say it can wait until the end of your cycle.
