hey guys, just switched out the coralife bulbs in my 300w mh fixture for 14k phoenix's. However, the box they came in was completely blank, the directions were in japanese and the it doesnt say phoenix on either of the bulbs anywhere. Those of you who have this bulbs, does it say phoenix anywhere on the bulb?

phoenix's are comprable in spectrum to a 20K thats the difference if ur goin from a 10K to the phoenix u will lose some PAR thats just how it works but still from my experience a great bulb

it just looks really really close to actinic. I think i'm gonna run one of the older whitish/yellow bulbs with only one of the phoenix's. I'll see how this comes out.

I sometimes think its not the color that bothers me as much as the level of brightness, they're very dim compared to the previous bulbs.

Give them some time to burn in too, I'm planning to switch to 14k from my 10s when they wear out so it's nice to see some comparison pics.

What did you end up doing? I got this bulb also and it's extremely blue. It is exactly the same color as my 03 actinic. I've seen pictures of other tanks with this bulb and they did not look nearly as blue as mine. Could they be bad bulbs? I'm using an electronic ballast. Can someone happy with the color post a pic of their phoenix bulbs?

I have pheonix bulbs and an electronic ballast and the color looks exactly as above. Thats how they are supposed to look. I get good growth, very good actually and great color from my corals.

My softie tank is loving the phoenix bulbs, not as bright as I thought they would be, but corals are thriving, colors are great, growth is ok...

I dont understand why people love phoenix 14k or any 20kish looking bulbs for that matter. perhaps it brings out the fancy colors but never really looks that natural to me
I guess it really is personal preference. Bulbs I like are ushio 14k, aqualine 13k, reflux 10k, iwasaki 15k...these bulbs are mostly white without the yellow. perhaps the slightest of blue for some of them and retain good PAR. If I need to go bluer I would either add supplemental flourescents or one 20k in the center and two of the above left and right.
